Privacy & Cookies

This policy explains what personal information AmbergrisCaye.net collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors, business owners and real estate agencies who use this website.

Information we collect

  • Account details — name, email address and a password (stored only as a salted hash) when you create an account, or the basic profile Google shares if you choose Google sign-in.
  • Content you submit — reviews, comments, saved places, listing and property details, photos, claims, and messages sent to businesses or agencies through our contact forms.
  • Technical data — a short-lived session cookie while you are signed in, and security logs (such as IP address and sign-in outcomes) used to prevent abuse.
  • Analytics — only if you accept analytics cookies: anonymous, first-party page-view and interaction statistics. We do not use third-party analytics services.

Cookies and similar technologies

Essential cookies keep you signed in and protect forms; they cannot be switched off. Analytics and advertising are off until you choose to allow them in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. Advertising content from third parties (for example Google AdSense) loads only if you allow advertising.

How we use information

To run the directory, show your reviews and saved places, deliver your messages to the business or agency you contacted, moderate content, send service emails (such as confirmations and password resets), keep the site secure, and understand which pages are useful.

Who sees it

Reviews and comments show your first name or chosen display name. Messages you send through a contact form are emailed to the business or agency you contacted. We do not sell personal information. Service providers that host the site, store images or send email process data on our behalf.

Retention and your rights

You can edit your profile at any time and ask us to delete your account from My account. Deleting an account removes your personal data and saved places; reviews you wrote are anonymised. Raw analytics events and security logs are deleted automatically after a limited period.
